Ancient Roads

Behind the Song

Ancient Roads was never meant to start at the manger.
It starts before it — in the dust, the waiting, the long obedience of faith that stretched across centuries.

This song was written from the realization that Jesus didn’t arrive into a story that was improvised.
Every step toward Bethlehem had already been walked — by prophets, by promises, by people who trusted God without seeing the fulfillment. Scripture after scripture wasn’t guessing… it was pointing.

Ancient Roads is about those paths —
the words spoken long before the world was ready,
the hope carried through silence,
the faith of people who believed the light was coming, even while standing in shadow.

This song is also the first chapter in a larger story we’re telling called The Promise.
The Promise is a song-by-song journey through the life of Jesus — not rushed, not summarized — but unfolded step by step. From prophecy… to birth… to sacrifice… to resurrection… to what His story still means today.

Every song will move the story forward.
Every release will carry the weight of what came before it.

Ancient Roads lays the foundation.
It reminds us that before the miracle, there was faith.
Before the manger, there was a map.
And before love arrived in flesh and bone,
it was already written into the road.

This is where The Promise begins.

Anchient Roads Lyrics

Verse 1
I’ve walked roads older than kings and crowns,
Stone by stone where the truth was found.
Dust on my boots from prophets’ cries,
Hope in the hush of ancient skies.
They spoke of One with heaven’s flame,
Every path bent, whisperin’ His name.
Long before the world yet knew,
The road leaned forward, pointin’ to You.

Chorus
Ancient roads, they led the way,
Every word, every step in place.
What was promised, what was told,
Written in dust and carved in stone.
He wasn’t born yet, but heaven knew —
Love was comin’ to break us through.

Verse 2
They said a shoot from Jesse’s line,
Life in dry ground, God’s design.
Bethlehem low, no royal sound,
Hope in a town the world passed ‘round.
Prince of Peace in a fragile frame,
Wonderful Counselor, Heaven’s name.
No crown of gold, no sword, no throne,
Just mercy wrapped in flesh and bone.

Chorus
Ancient roads, they led the way,
Every word, every step in place.
What was promised, what was told,
Written in dust and carved in stone.
He wasn’t born yet, but heaven knew —
Love was comin’ to break us through.

Verse 3
The night was long, the waiting wide,
Faith held fast through silent skies.
Every scroll, every sacred sign,
Bendin’ the stars toward perfect time.
The weight He’d lift, the chains He’d break,
The cost He’d bear for mercy’s sake.
Before the cry, before the cross,
The road was set — no word was lost.

Final Chorus
Ancient roads, they led the way,
Every step in heaven’s grace.
What was spoken, what came true,
The Word made flesh to carry you.
He wasn’t born yet, but we still knew —
He’d walk these roads for me and you.

Outro (soft fade)
I’ve walked roads older than kings and crowns…
But none shine like the one He walked down.
